Noor Center
Trauma Care and Counseling
Working in collaboration with partners like The Trauma Healing Institute, Set Free Movement, Care Corps, and Salt and Light team, the Noor Center offers trauma care and counseling to residents of the refugee camps in Iraqi Kurdistan. We handpick members of the community – many of them also camp residents – and equip them with the skills necessary to serve their neighbors on a continuing basis. Once trained, these employees are able to offer individual and group counseling and support groups for adults, as well as play therapy, art, music, and counseling for children.
Why choose camp residents to run these programs? Because it ensures that these services aren’t dependent on outside support. Because it allows camp residents to actively fight back against pain and hopelessness in their community. And because they know firsthand the struggles of their neighbors because they’ve been through it themselves. Our vision is to create a generation of wounded healers, people who serve as living proof there is hope and that things will get better.
